2013 League Survey
2:32 AM ET on 1/3/13 by Jay Soester
In a throw back to the earlier days of the league, I've put together a survey that I hope everyone will participate in. I've set up a database to catch the submissions to make determining the results (and subsequently, announcing them) a lot easier.

The sections with a light blue header and the section titled, "Membership Levels" are incredibly important (and the mini-section in between).

You can submit the survey again after the first time, simply use the same password. If you have any questions feel free to reply to this thread.

I pray to get a newsletter out Thursday before it's too late for Fantasy Golf, but I'm not remotely optimistic.

The first deadline of the Fantasy Golf season is 5 AM on Friday (roughly 26.5 hours away as I type this). If you're not already in one of our groups, please join: ID- 829/Password- 123456. Don't forget about NFL Playoffs Pickem and Fantasy NFL Playoffs as well.

NFL Locks - Now Available
10:11 PM ET on 8/2/11 by Jay Soester
NFL Pickem has a dance partner. NFL Locks is the second game on to be created on the league website to replace a game previously run through Yahoo!. Survival Pickem will now be moved to unofficial game status while NFL Locks takes Survival Pickem's place in Tier 4 of the official game list.

Reasons for the game's creation are given on the game's rule page. Instead of picking a single winner each week, as was the case with Survival Pickem, you'll now need to pick between three and five winners each game week with the result, margin of victory or defeat and pick weight being taken into account to determine a score for each pick. Unlike Survival Pickem, NFL Locks will feature week wins and championship points for 5-0 and 4-0 weeks on top of championship points for overall rank, pick points rank and number of week wins rank.

If you have any questions about the game's rules or page, use the game discussion thread.

NFL Pickem Available - On the League Website
1:55 AM ET on 7/25/11 by Jay Soester
The All-Sports Fantasy League has entered a new era. NFL Pickem has become the first game to be moved from Yahoo! to the website. The game will remain on tier three of the official game list and the championship points earned from the game will remain at roughly the same weight as they have been in the past within the new championship points system. I may need to alter the current championship points breakdown upon seeing how frequently the weekly points are given out through the beginning of the season.

The game format will be changing, however. Instead of simply picking the winner of each game, you'll now be predicting the score. From there you receive 30 points for a correct result, up to 15 for the margin predicted and up to six for each score predicted (plus another three if you get everything correct). The full game rules and scoring breakdown can be found on the rules page, which also features a section on how to participate. If you have any questions, please post them on the message board game thread.

The game features provided are similar to those Premier League Pickem, but more in-depth where possible. This includes providing the average picked score and result for each game and the NFL Standings if each member's picks were correct.

I hope to create a replacement game on the website for NFL Survival Pickem, currently being run through Yahoo!, within the next two weeks. A definite ruling as to whether or not Survival Pickem will remain a part of the official game list for the 2011-2012 season will be made by mid-August.

Final 2010-2011 Bonus Points
3:47 AM ET on 6/14/11 by Jay Soester
With the Bruins win on Monday night, the 2010-2011 ASFL2 season will finish on Wednesday night in Vancouver with game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals after over 17 months of competition.

The final bonus point totals have been determined in advance for each member. If you believe I've left something out or otherwise made a mistake, you have until 11:59 PM ET Wednesday night to notify me of the problem. This link has the final standings with running explanations for points given throughout the thread.

With the standings set, I can congratulate the 14 qualifiers for the 2011-2012 ASASFL Third League:

2009-2010 Review Survey Analysis
3:53 AM ET on 6/13/11 by Jay Soester
I should begin this piece by noting that I read through the surveys as I received them nearly a year ago and drew conclusions despite not having the time to truly quantify the results. The 42 members who submitted surveys didn't waste their time, what I've received helped shape how things were done this past season and will have an effect on the league going forward. All who provided me with their thoughts received between one and seven bonus points for their effort depending on how much information they provided. Most earned at least five points for the 2010-2011 season.

The first thing I analyzed was the responses to how often each member checked or visited the website or their fantasy teams. Here was the breakdown of responses:

First and foremost (for everything from the survey), I have to take into account that I only received information from 42 of the 191 members to participate in the 2010-2011 season. On top of that, the membership range skewed decidedly toward the more active membership.

With that in mind, the results still backed what I expected. Members check their fantasy teams extensively more than the website, and that's certainly reasonable. Without the teams, the website serves no purpose. Based on the numerical results, the website and message board were checked roughly three to four times less often than fantasy teams were. The difference between the website and message board was marginal and on top of that I believe many didn't truly differentiate between visiting the two...either way, they are one in the same now, where they weren't a year ago.

What do I take from this? -

League Milestone
4:36 AM ET on 3/28/11 by Jay Soester
Sunday's conclusion of the Arnold Palmer Invitational ended the Fantasy Golf winter segment. The first segment points of the 2011-2012 season were handed out as a result. This was the first instance of fractional points being awarded in league history. Dave Berrong had the most points for the segment and earned the maximum value of six points for his placement. Terry Dolasinski was the first member to earn fractional points with 5.87 for second place.

If you missed the explanation of the new system, read this earlier news item. Once the 2010-2011 season has finished (making the old system completely outdated), I'll be working on a permanent rules page explaining the scoring system.

I'd also like to point out the efforts of Buck Meier and Kobi Akers for earning championship points based on their segment placement despite missing the first week of the season. Meier finished 16th for 4.00 championship points while Akers squeaked in in 45th for 0.13 points.

New Championship Points System
4:17 AM ET on 3/18/11 by Jay Soester

n = Total number of members participating in a game.
m = Maximum championship point total awarded for the standings in question.
r = A member's rank in the standings in question.

The above formula will be the basis of the new scoring system. I strove to keep the new system similar to the old one while improving in four key areas.

Message Board Member Stats
4:50 AM ET on 2/28/11 by Jay Soester
Beginning with the 2011-2012 season, time logged into the message board will be a factor in determining the message board activity bonus points on top of the old method of post count. Bonus Points are primarily to reward those that help me and activity on the message board helps me determine which directions the league should move in, helps me understand the members' point of view and increases the website's traffic.

I've created a Message Board Member Stats page so that everyone can see where they stand against their fellow competitors. If you have any questions, reply to this thread.
