ASFL2 Newsletter #19 (2/23/12)

The second busiest time of the ASFL2 season is upon us. I'm going to try to speed through everything as I'll have about five hours to write this before it needs to get out...

Games Available

I'd like to welcome the new members that keep coming in as we build up to Fantasy Baseball. There are five official games available for sign up with four more unofficial games available and another unofficial game will be available shortly.

Fantasy Golf has had one spot open up. The game is run through Yahoo! and the ID is 143 with a password of 123456. The spot is first come first serve, but reserved for new members.

Fantasy NASCAR is the second game of the season and kicks off on Sunday with the Daytona 500. The Yahoo! group ID is 407 and the password is 123456. We're currently 33 members joining the group away from having a fourth group and four week wins each week as a result.

NCAA Tournament Pickem is next up. It's also run through Yahoo! with the ID for our group being 1039 and the password being 123456. Selection Sunday is March 11th with the deadline for entries being around noon ET on the subsequent Thursday.

MLB Standings Pickem is the first official game run through the league website for the 2012-2013 season. You can sign up for the game now, and submit the standings portion of your entry, but please wait on the playoffs portion of your entry until MLB's playoff format is set for this season. That should be sorted out by March 1st according to the latest reports.

The last official game available is the biggest. Fantasy Baseball is currently waiting for draft time preferences. As of this writing, I've received 81 preferences for either 156 or 168 spots. Reply to this thread on the league message board to help me place you in a league that works for you. I'll be accepting preferences through the weekend before starting to send league IDs via email early next week. Please watch your inbox for an ASFL2 league in the near future. Once you receive your ID and password, please join the league as soon as possible to secure your place in one of our leagues. The first draft will take place on March 17th.

The first unofficial game available has been running since August. Premier League Pickem will continue until mid-May, but bonus points earned from the game will factor into the 2011-2012 championship standings.

The second unofficial game is the first available for the 2012-2013 season, but has already completed its first event of the season. Fantasy Tennis will be back for its second run on the league message board, this time spanning an additional two months. To participate, simply submit your eight-player team for each gender at each of the ten tournaments.

AFL Pickem is next up. This is its first season on the website proper after being run through the message board since the inaugural ASFL2 season. The game's format is the same as NFL Pickem, but with a slightly different scoring system due to the nature of the arena game versus the outdoor game. Instead of a correct pick being worth 30 points, they're worth 60 points while the perfect score in AFL Pickem is 100 points as opposed to the 60 points in NFL Pickem. For a further explanation, check this article from the league website. The season starts on March 9th. I hope to have another article on the league website about the differences between the AFL and NFL.

The last unofficial game currently available is Fantasy Formula 1. The game is back for its third run on the league message board. In order to participate, all you need to do is reply to the game thread with your three driver, one team lineup for each of the 20 races this Formula 1 season. Nathan Susanto will again be running the game. The season starts with the Australian Grand Prix on March 18th.

MLB Day-to-Day Pickem was the game that couldn't quite make the cut for this newsletter. I'll be working on it over the weekend and hope to have it available early next week, if not over the weekend. The MLB season starts on March 28th with the first full slate of games coming on April 5th.

For more information about when games become available, check out the league timeline with the breakdown for all games on the official game list. Information on unofficial games is announced as it becomes known, but the list of recurring unofficial games is available on the Fantasy Games section's navigation bar.

Other Competitions

I'll be accepting bids for our available Keeper Leagues Fantasy Baseball teams through the weekend. I've received 11 bids for up to 12 teams becoming available. I plan to begin determining the bid winners for the higher ranked available teams in the next 24-48 hours.

The Fantasy Baseball slow draft season is upon us. The ASASFL Third League & Super League drafts are now underway with the Champions League draft beginning at 8 PM ET on Sunday.

The Keeper Leagues drafts begin in just under a week:

Premier Division: Thursday, March 1st at 6 PM ET.
Second Division: Monday, March 5th at 6 PM ET.
Third Division: Thursday, March 8th at 6 PM ET.
Fourth Division: Saturday, March 3rd at 6 PM ET.

Not to be forgotten, the Money Leagues NCAA Tournament Pools are now available. We offer a $1 and a $5 pool with the prize breakdown available here. To participate, fill out this form then join the group you're participating in. The ID for our $1 group is 1123 and the ID for our $5 group is 2074. The password for both is 123456. You can have as many entries as you'd like in either (or both) group. I can accept payments via PayPal. All ASFL2 groups follow 1-2-4-6-8-10 scoring.

I'm also putting a feeler out there for anyone interested in a Fantasy Baseball Money League. I had intended to not run any this season due to my lack of time in trying to fill them, but if enough members are interested, I'd be glad to set things up. I'd need at least eight members interested in a slow draft money league by the first weekend of March (just over a week from now) and/or at least eight members interested in a live draft on Saturday, March 24th at 3:30 PM ET. Both leagues would have a $25 buy-in. To see the winnings breakdown, go here. If you are interested, email me or reply to this thread. I can accept payments via PayPal, check or Western Union.

Other Items

Currently, I'm looking for help in a few areas.

In preparing for Fantasy NASCAR being run on the website, I'm looking for driver rankings, and combined driver and team rankings from any interested members before the Daytona 500. If you're interested in helping, please read this post, then email me your rankings.

I'm going to need help running games that are already on the league website as well. If you're interested in helping me keep schedules and scores up to date for AFL Pickem or MLB Day-to-Day Pickem please let me know.

I'm also looking for help in recruiting new members to the league. If you have some time to help, please check this thread. I'm generally just looking for members to help bump and rate up league messages on the Yahoo! message boards.

All who do help will receive bonus points which can help you in the overall standings directly or by helping you earn a second team in draft games when they're needed to fill out a league. If you have some spare time, but aren't interested in any of the above, feel free to contact me and I might be able to find something else for you.

Behind the scenes, I continue to work on new features. Currently at the top of the list is setting up a new bonus points version of the Points Logs database. Not far behind are setting up CFL Pickem and College Football Pickem as well as setting up an FAQ section and improving the front page of the domain. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get very far behind the scenes until this rush of activity is overwith in April.

Removing Yourself From the Newsletter List

I've finally fully automated the newsletter process to where they are now sent automatically through the website instead of my email account and they are not sent to members that are deemed retired, inactive, or banned.

If you want to be removed from the newsletter's email list, you need to update your Member Profile, including your status and which games you do or do not want to participate in.

I hope to have the option for active members to no longer receive the newsletter emails in the future.

I've also added a "Forgot Password" button to the edit member profile page.
