ASFL2 Newsletter #2 (2/10/08)

A month of the season has gone by and Fantasy Golf is running smoothly. Fantasy NASCAR starts with the Daytona 500 next Sunday, be sure to set your lineups before the race. I anticipate there being three NASCAR groups to Golf's two, which means there will be an extra week win in NASCAR each week and 60 members will get position points at the end of the season to 40 for Golf. There will also be an overall NASCAR standings page on the website. It will likely be linked in the main news section of the site and under the "Current Number of Leagues:" heading in the Basic Info section at the top left of the site.

Fantasy Baseball Info

On to the reason for the newsletter, Fantasy Baseball.

I have set up 10 leagues thus far, meaning 120-140 members can participate. There has been a thread on the message board for three or four days asking for members to reply with their preferences on draft times. Here are the 8 times to choose from (the season starts March 25th):

Saturday March 22nd at 5:30 PM EST
Monday March 17th at 7:30 PM EST
Friday March 21st at 8:30 PM EST
Sunday March 23rd (Easter) at 3:45 PM EST
Thursday March 20th at 6:45 PM EST
Sunday March 16th at 7:45 PM EST
Tuesday March 11th at 10:30 PM EST
& Wednesday March 19th at 6 PM EST

There will also be at least one autopick league, which you can allow to be your preference. The 10th league, as of now, will either be another autopick or a live draft skewed toward a west coast time during the week of March 10th.

Please reply to the thread, or reply to this email with your preferred draft times, in order. Make sure you include what times you cannot attend and I will do my best to keep you away from those leagues. Please be aware that you may not get your top time, as I have to fit in about 100 people in 8 times and have to project what the demands are going to be where. The sooner you get your preferences in, the more likely you are to not be stuck with something you can't do.

As the preferences start to come in, I should be setting up the leagues in the next 2-3 days. If you get placed in a league and want to try to switch, you can use the message board thread to see who's in other leagues and talk to them about changing places. I will be posting which members are in which league in that thread and I will be emailing and/or IMing the league IDs and passwords to each member. I will not post the IDs or passwords, to try to prevent problems with people in the wrong leagues. If two members come to an agreement on switching, please notify me (via email, IM or PM) and I will give each of you the new ID and password- do not do it yourself.

I will only place confirmed members into any of the fantasy baseball leagues. In order to be confirmed, you need to have replied to the New Member Introduction Thread in the League Office section of the message board and you must be in a Yahoo! group for at least one of our two other sports. Once you are confirmed, there will be an asterisk next to your name on the members page.

The league rules for Fantasy Baseball can be found here, once the number of leagues and total participants are set, there will be additional points given out based on overall position versus other leagues (the updated means of point getting will be on the rules page and hopefully on the message board as well). I also hope to have a page on the website or message board which has the standings of each league together.

Other Information

If you're wondering what's next on the calendar, NCAA Tournament Pickem should be set up the first weekend of March. There are only five or so days to get in the group(s) so please be on the lookout for information. MLB Standings Pickem will likely be available in the first few days of March, with the deadline for you to post your entry on the message board being March 25th.

If you missed the first newsletter, please check it out here, it outlines bonus points and their importance in this league.

Also, for those of you who haven't added yourself to the frappr map, please do.

And finally, if you've downloaded AIM (or simply have it) and haven't given me your screen name, please let me know you have AIM and what your sn is. Mine is Heggis27, if you'd prefer to tell me that way.

If you're reading this on the website because you didn't get the email, please make sure emails from commish@theasfl.com is set to not go to your junk/bulk mail.
