At 4:45 AM ET, the Dodgers-Padres game was just suspended with a runner on first in the top of the 9th of a 2-2 tie. The game had been delayed four separate times, tying the major league record, before the umpires finally suspended the game. Thankfully, it will be made up prior to the regularly scheduled game on Saturday. Even more thankfully, it was the only game out of 15 scheduled that was not picked by anyone on Friday. Nineteen different teams were selected yesterday, but the Padres and Dodgers were bypassed by 62 pickers.
Because the game will be made up as part of the series, it won't be set to an effective postponement in the system. I'll be updating the final score tomorrow as though the game finished without a pause.
It's way too early in the morning for me to look this up, but I believe a postponement within the last two or three years was the first San Diego postponement in 20 or 30 years. The first person to accurately comment to this article with the dates of the last two postponed [MLB] games in San Diego gets a bonus point. |

Last two rainouts at SD were 4 Apr 2006 and 12 May 1998. There have been a total now of 17 rainouts in Padre history since 1969. Good trivia question. |
