ASFL2 Newsletter #24 (6/25/15)

The first Fantasy Football draft is roughly two months away, but before it takes place there are two rule proposals that need to be voted on. There's some Money Leagues news, new games currently available, some news for games about to become available, and some website changes as well.

If anyone is interested in writing previews/reviews or about any other fantasy sports rankings/advice or simply sports-related topic on the website, please let me know. I can teach you whatever you need to learn programming-wise to help make it happen. If you know someone else who would be interested, perhaps someone that is looking into writing professionally, feel free to send them my way. I have been granted media credentials in the past thanks to the website and anyone writing on it would be eligible.

Games Available

There are currently seven games available, three through Yahoo! and four on the website. To participate in any of our games on the website, click the "Sign Up" link on the game page then use the "Submit Your Picks" link to enter your predictions.

The first game for CFL Pickem is Thursday at 7:30 PM ET with Ottawa visiting Montreal. For more information on the league, sport, and fantasy game, check out this article.

The first Fantasy Football draft is Wednesday, August 26th at 9 PM ET. We currently have 12 free leagues available with more potentially to be added if demand merits them. You can join a few of our leagues by clicking the links in this message board thread. After you join one of our leagues, make sure to vote on the two rule proposals. After a trial league last season, weekly waivers and a flex spot are being proposed.

The original ASFL2 game, MLB Day-to-Day Pickem, has some new features. Probable starters are now updated multiple times each day for a week ahead with the pitcher's ERA and win-loss record included, game scores are now updated every 15 minutes, and the DMU games are automatically selected each Sunday night without a participant's opinion being taken into account. It's not too late to join, all monthly winners make the September playoffs. Game participants pick one winner each day of the MLB season. If you're correct you earn points. If you're wrong, you lose points. Streaks increase your point total for wins. If you've never tried the game before, give it a whirl, this is the game that drives the most traffic to the website and our games are crucial to the league's success going forward.

The Fall NASL Pickem season starts on July 4th. George Brady won the spring season with 119 points, but everyone starts with zero for the fall season. Join now and play through November 1st.

Fantasy Formula 1 has returned to the league message board for its sixth season thanks to Nathan Susanto. Nine races remain.

Fantasy Golf kicked off the 2015-2016 ASFL2 season in January. The game is run through Yahoo! and the ID is 3312 with a password of 123456.

Fantasy NASCAR is also underway for the new season. The game also runs through Yahoo! and the ID is 12436 with a password of 123456.

For more information about when games become available, check out the league timeline with the breakdown for all games on the official game list. Information on unofficial games is announced as it becomes known, but the list of recurring unofficial games is available on the Fantasy Games section's navigation bar.

Money Leagues

There are also two $25 and one $50 Fantasy Football Money League available.
$25 League 1 is scheduled to draft at 5 PM ET on Saturday, August 29th.
$25 League 2 is scheduled to draft at 6:30 PM ET on Sunday, September 6th.
$50 League 3 is scheduled to draft at 7:30 PM ET on Sunday, August 30th.

To join any (or all) league(s), click the link above. Each league needs to reach eight teams in order to go on. If league 1 isn't at eight teams by the Thursday before the draft, it'll be merged into league 2. Payments can be made to bsoester@bellsouth.net on PayPal or via check if sent early enough.

I'm also contemplating setting up an NFL Pickem pool for the coming season using the NFL Pickem game on the website. I'm leaning toward a full season buy-in amount, the option to buy in weekly without participating in the full season, and the option to put in multiple pick sets. Payouts would go to weekly winners and to potentially the top 10% in the same manner as our NCAA Tournament Pickem pools. If you're interested, let me know via email or reply to this thread on the message board where I'll be putting updates. I'm also open to creating a Money Leagues pool for College Football Pickem and NFL Locks.

Coming Improvements

I hope to make the same improvements to NFL Pickem, NFL Locks, College Football Pickem and Premier League Pickem that I made with MLB Day-to-Day Pickem, including semi-live scoring and other update enhancements behind the scenes as well as the potential to pull from news items around the web. I plan to begin work on setting each game up for the coming fall season in the next week or two. Watch the league website for updates about their availability.

I also hope to increase the league's presence on social media. Please follow the league account, @asfl2 and my new, personal account, @JaySoester for league updates, reminders, and other information.

Lastly, I'm working remove the current ad network from the website, page-by-page. I know the ads that have been displayed by the network onto this website have been thoroughly underwhelming and it's my goal to find more relevant content in that space while also being able to sell ad space to offset the costs of running the website. I'd like to thank everyone that's visited this website over the years and welcome any feedback on improvements. I'm also hoping to perform a major overhaul of the website's layout in the next year or two.

Removing Yourself From the Newsletter List

I've finally fully automated the newsletter process to where they are now sent automatically through the website instead of my email account and they are not sent to members that are deemed retired, inactive, or banned.

If you want to be removed from the newsletter's email list, you need to update your Member Profile, including your status and which games you do or do not want to participate in.

I hope to have the option for active members to no longer receive the newsletter emails in the future.

I've also added a "Forgot Password" button to the edit member profile page.
