ASFL2 NASL Pickem - Rules

Introduction

NASL Pickem is a fairly standard pickem game, created to mirror Premier League Pickem. For each of the 165 games in the NASL schedule, submit your predicted score line. Your predicted result will automatically by determined based on the scores you submit. Your predicted scores and result will then earn you points based on their accuracy. Unlike MLB Day-to-Day Pickem, there is no end of season playoff period for the game.

What is the NASL? It is the American second division soccer league, below MLS. The acronym stands for North American Soccer League. For more history on how the league was formed and its place in the history of soccer in the US, check out Wikipedia. Throughout the game pages, it will simply be referred to as the NASL. There are eleven teams in the league for the 2015 season, but expansion teams are planned and some teams may move on to the MLS.

Why create NASL Pickem? Well, it doesn't exist anywhere else on the internet. Not even on the league website. The ASFL2 Commissioner is a Fort Lauderdale Strikers season ticket holder and put out a feeler on /r/NASLSoccer with enough responses to convince him to put the work in to create the game.

How it Works

To participate you need to go to the "Sign Up" page and register. The game is free for all participants. If you are an ASFL2 member, make sure you're entering your name as it appears on the ASFL2 members database. When registering you can choose to receive an email reminder to make your picks at noon the day before a game if you have yet to. You can change your email or password after registering by using the appropriate links on the game's front page.

Once registered you can submit your weekly picks via the "Submit Your Picks" link on the game page and review them via the "Review Your Picks" link. You can submit your pick for all games up to their scheduled start as recorded on the various game pages. To keep track of all game scoring you can follow the "Game Standings" link.

To help you make your decision, we've provided the full NASL schedule and team schedules that can be viewed by week, month or the entire season. The game also provides detailed NASL Standings including full league, home/road, monthly, spring/fall and head-to-head standings as well as standings between each team's last four, six or ten games. Once the season begins, NASL Pickem specific stats will also be available via the "Game Stats" link.

To help enchance the interaction, I strongly encourage discussion of the game and the NASL season on the league message board.

Game Scoring

Correct Pick:
3 Pts
Correct Score:
1 Point
Perfect Game:
1 Point

Example 1:
Actual Score:
2-1
Picked Score:
1-0
Example 2:
Actual Score:
3-1
Picked Score:
2-1
Example 3:
Actual Score:
1-1
Picked Score:

There are five possible scores that can be earned for any game pick:
  • 0 Pts: earned for either not picking, not having the correct result, or not having either score correct.
  • 1 Point: earned for only having one correct score, but getting the other score and result incorrect.
  • 3 Pts: earned for correctly picking the result of the game, but not having either score correct.
  • 4 Pts: earned for correctly picking the result of the game, and having one of the two scores correct.
  • 6 Pts: earned for correctly picking the result and both scores. An extra point is awarded for it being a perfect game.
-Example 1 is worth three points as the pick correctly had the left team winning, but didn't get either score correct.
-Example 2 is worth four points as the pick correctly had the left team winning and had one correct score.
-Example 3 is worth one point with a correct score picked despite the wrong result.

Deadlines & Postponed Games

The deadline to make a pick for each game is the scheduled start time of that game as given on the various game pages. All times on the website are denoted as ET which is UTC-4 during US daylight savings and UTC-5 otherwise.

If a game is postponed, all picks made before the postponement will go unchanged. The deadline will simply be moved back to the new game time.

2015 Game Schedule
