| Unfortunately, I haven't been able to write this until two weeks after the fact due to my schedule, but better late than never. First, I'd like to thank all that participated in the first original, and perhaps major, game to be featured on the website. It wasn't always perfect at times and there are a few things I need to work on for next season, but I'd consider the game a success. I started working to put the game together around mid-February and after nearly eight months of work, it's hard to believe the first season is over. I would like to thank Mike Miles & Anders Nilsson as their help made my job a little bit easier throughout the year. I've given them 12 and 6 bonus points, respectively, for their efforts. To put things in perspective, there are 6,551 emails in my email log that came from member picks, score updates, DMU selections, articles being written, game time updates, postponement updates and probable starter updates. The first was my initial signing up for the game on February 20th and the last (for this season) will be from this article. There were 7,164 picks between 68 members over the course of the regular season. The collective record came out to exactly 4,300 correct and 2,864 incorrect for a rate of 60.02% correct. Of those 7,164 picks, 1,688 were DMUs between 67 members. The collective DMU record game out to 951 correct with 737 incorrect for a rate of 56.34% correct. I'm slightly dissapointed my DMU selections only dropped the correct percentage by 3.68%. Between all picks, teams picked scored 35,583 runs to 27,740 runs against for a run differential of +7,843 runs. The collective pythagorean winning percentage based on that collective run breakdown is 62.20%. Over the 148 game regular season for Day-to-Day Pickem, that would have worked out to a record of 92-56. Only four members wound up having their picks see more runs scored against them than for them this season. Nineteen members had a double digit winning streak for the season. Eleven of that total had a streak longer than ten with just five of those having a streak over 11. Three members tied for third longest streak at 13, with Dave Berrong's 15 finishing runner-up to David Funke's 17. The average long streak for the regular season was 7.29 games. Between the 68 members to have picked at least one game, only four picked a game on all 148 days. Dave Berrong (3rd), James Waddell (11th), Jay Soester (16th), and Kevin Cheek (20th) were the four to pull off the feat. After those four, eight either picked a game or chose to pass for all 148 regular season days. Charles Yelverton (2nd- 146 games), Corey Beaudoin (5th- 147), Kraig Monkman (7th- 147), Stephen Schulte (8th- 147), Chris Wanned (12th- 147), Jason Oroszi (14th- 147), Chad Gumm (23rd- 147), and Anders Nilsson (28th- 147) will join the aforementioned four in receiving an extra bonus point for not missing a day. Tim Quinley picked the most DMU games at 79 with Jeff Mazurek (74) being the only other member to make a DMU pick for at least half of the days on the season. Patrick Cooley's 72 was a close third. Dave Berrong's 65 was the most of any member that qualified for the playoffs. The playoffs saw 480 picks between 23 members over four rounds with 310 correct picks and 170 incorrect picks for a correct percentage of 64.58%. Of those 480 picks, 108 were DMUs with 52 of those being correct and 56 being incorrect for a correct percentage of 48.15%. Brad Wilson and Mike Brekke tied for the best cumulative record for the playoffs at 26-7 (78.78%). Wilson had the long streak for the postseason at 10, thanks to a perfect first round, but Brekke won the honors in large part thanks to a league high 18 bonus game points. Brekke also had the best cumulative run differential at +67. Teams picked in the postseason scored a cumulative 2,111 runs with 1,726 runs scored against for a differential of +385. The pythagorean winning percentage based on those numbers is 59.93%, or a record of 20-13 for the entire 33 game, four-round postseason. Now that I've thrown all those numbers out to summarize the season, I'd like your input. My top priority for next season will be wiping out the pick clearing bug entirely with a few minor stat and standings page tweaks also on the list. I hope to see everyone again next season. |
