2:54 PM on October 31st, 2014 by Nathan Susanto

Message Board

Despite conceding a last-gasp goal last weekend, Chelsea actually extended their advantage at the top of the English Premier League standings after champions Manchester City slipped up at West Ham. In week 10 of the 2014-2015 season, City will hope to get back on track in the marquee matchup against local rival Manchester United.

Elsewhere, Chelsea can consolidate their lead on Saturday when they clash with QPR in a local derby in the capital. Second-placed Southampton will try to continue their fine start to the campaign on their visit to Hull.

Down at the bottom of the standings, the country's only winless club, Burnley, will attempt to earn their first victory when they travel to Arsenal, while Sunderland and Crystal Palace clash in an encounter where either team can move up several places with victory.

Remember to make your Premier League Pickem predictions before the deadline of each game. Week 10's schedule begins on Saturday at 8:45 AM ET, a game followed by six 11 AM ET kickoffs. The two matches on Sunday begin at 8:30 AM ET and 11 AM ET, while the week concludes with a Monday fixture, which starts at 3 PM ET.

Note that the Yahoo! Fantasy Premier League game's deadline is on Sunday at 7:45 AM ET.

Here we preview the ten games in the upcoming week of the English Premier League. The title of each game section is a link to pick the result of that game.

Liverpool (7th) at Newcastle United (14th) (Sat, 8:45 AM ET)

After having a run of three defeats in the space of four games, Liverpool has pieced together an unbeaten streak of four matches. That run began with a 1-1 tie with Everton, before the Reds beat West Brom 2-1. They snatched a 3-2 win over QPR but Hull then held them to a 0-0 tie. Two late goals helped Liverpool beat Swansea in the League Cup. Newcastle's manager Alan Pardew appeared to be under severe pressure but all of a sudden the club's confidence has been lifted after a couple of good weeks. The Magpies are riding a three-game unbeaten run, including two victories in a row; it's their best streak of the calendar year. Newcastle also defeated Manchester City 2-0 in the League Cup.

They head into this match still winless and riding a two-game losing streak. They've scored in their last three, though, having gone goalless in the previous five. Arsenal is looking to string together victories having spread their three wins this season across the nine gameweeks. Their first win of the term came on the opening day of the season but they had to wait until week 5 to finally secure victory number two. Another three matches went without a win but they were victorious last time out at Sunderland.

Rangers began the season with two defeats but they beat Sunderland in week 3. They then went on a five-game winless run, including a three-match losing span. They beat Aston Villa 2-0 on Monday, though. Chelsea will fancy their chances to lengthen their unbeaten start to the campaign this week, though they slipped up against relegation-threatened teams during last term's title run-in. Last week, it looked like the Blues would extend their winning run to four games until Manchester United's late leveller. Chelsea beat Shrewsbury in the League Cup.

The Toffeemen didn't notch their first league victory until week 4 and then came two defeats in three games. However, they've rebounded and have defeated Aston Villa and Burnley in successive weeks.

Southampton (2nd) at Hull City (10th) (Sat, 11 AM ET)

People were surprised when Southampton sat in third place after nine games last term but they've managed an even better start this time around. After no wins in their first two matches, the Saints have since reeled off six victories in their last seven, including successes in the last two games. Southampton also defeated Stoke 3-2 in the League Cup. Hull has become difficult to beat recently, helping them enter this week 10 encounter on the back of a three-match unbeaten run. After winning on the first day of the term, the Tigers went five games without a victory, a span which included two defeats. Hull then beat Crystal Palace, though, and has tied with Arsenal and Liverpool in their last two.

West Bromwich Albion (13th) at Leicester City (17th) (Sat, 11 AM ET)

West Brom kicked the season off without a victory in their opening four games and they head into this match looking to avoid a similar slump. The Baggies two wins of the season came in back-to-back games in weeks 5 and 6 but since then they've lost one and tied their last two. West Brom was beaten by League 2's Bournemouth in the League Cup. After the highs of beating Stoke and Manchester United in successive games, Leicester has been in a rut, leading to them sliding down the standings. Those consecutive victories came in weeks 4 and 5 but the Foxes are now in search of their third win of the term to snap a four-game winless streak. Leicester has lost three during the four-game slide.

West Ham United (4th) at Stoke City (12th) (Sat, 11 AM ET)

The criticism directed at West Ham manager seems a lifetime ago with their fine start to the campaign continuing. A three-match winning streak has now been accumulated, with a 2-1 victory over champions Manchester City coming last week. That followed wins against QPR and Burnley, leading to their highest tally after nine fixtures for 15 years. Stoke's campaign has yet to find any consistency, with the club failing to get a winning streak going nine weeks into the season. The Potters have won three times to date but each victory has been followed by a defeat. Stoke lost 1-0 against Southampton last time out in the league and then the same opponent defeated them 3-2 in the League Cup.

Manchester United (8th) at Manchester City (3rd) (Sun, 8:30 AM ET)

Manchester United has now hit their best unbeaten streak of the campaign to date, standing at four games, but they actually have fewer points now then at the same stage last season. United has lost just once in their last six outings, however, and they've recorded three wins during that span. They enter this week on the back of two successive ties. Champions Manchester City head into this local rivalry on the back of some indifferent form; they're looking for their first victory in four games in all competitions. In the league, City had a three-game winning streak snapped last time out in a 2-1 loss at West Ham. They were then eliminated from the League Cup by Newcastle in a 2-0 home defeat.

Tottenham Hotspur (11th) at Aston Villa (15th) (Sun, 11 AM ET)

Since winning their opening two league games, Tottenham has been in some poor form. They've only won one of the subsequent seven fixtures, a 1-0 victory over Southampton in week 7, and Spurs has already notched four defeats. Those losses include two in their last two encounters. Tottenham advanced in the League Cup by defeating Brighton. Aston Villa's three victories and a tie in their first four games was enough to earn Paul Lambert a contract extension. However, things have gone wrong since that stretch. Villa has now hit a five-match losing streak, the worst in the division. A lack of goals is clearly a problem, with Villa going goalless during the five-game skid, while conceding 13.

Sunderland (18th) at Crystal Palace (16th) (Mon, 3 PM ET)

Sunderland's slow start to the season has seen them finally drop into the bottom three with nine games in the books. The Black Cats have only managed to notch one victory so far, a 3-1 win over Stoke in week 7, and they've now lost three times, including their last two. Sunderland has been kept off the scoresheet in four of their last five matches. Crystal Palace now sits just one point above the bottom three after they had climbed up into the top half of the table just a month ago. That was after the Eagles had gone four games without defeat, including successive victories. They head into this clash on the back of a three-game winless run, however, having lost two and tied 2-2 with West Brom.
