  • If you had told me before the game we'd draw, I'd be more than content. I'd prefer not to do it by conceding with less than a minute left, however.
  • The late Portuguese goal kept Jermaine Jones from passing Henry Kissinger as the best German-American in history.
  • The midfield was gassed at the 60 minute mark. For that reason, I thought we'd concede another goal. I didn't anticipate us scoring twice before that, however (I could have seen once). Jones' goal stunned me a tad, especially something that beautiful. Jones was absolutely gassed at the 90 minute mark. All of our midfield gave the ball away far too easily as we got tired, they started off well.
  • Bradley and the defense switched off 30 seconds too early to give up that goal. It can't happen. Get it in the corner even if you just have to kick it.
  • This tournament is in Bradley's head at this point. If he scores off the beautiful set up, he's in a much better place indefinitely. The block off the line was tough luck. Without re-watching the play, he's not looking at the backside defender, only the goalie and the central defender that were away from the goal- it still shouldn't be in the direct center of the net.
  • Cameron can't give up that first goal, he had a fairly solid game otherwise (should have done better at the very end as well). Besler was solid. Beasley had a much better game than last time. Johnson was strong defensively, but gets caught up at least once or twice a game...which is gonna happen given our need for him offensively. Howard was solid as usual aside from cheating on the goal (not holding that one against him given how close and unmarked Nani was, even if he doesn't cheat it's going in at a better rate than a PK) and the weak punch that hit the post and resulted in a rebound that required his scramble slap.
  • I'm a fan of bringing on Yedlin when we did. It's a very smart move if he's prepared for it, but at the end him and Fabian Johnson may have needed to switch for fresh legs in recovery.
  • I don't like bringing in Gonzalez, it didn't work vs Nigeria and he wasn't anywhere to be seen on their late goal (he wouldn't of done anything anyway) and as far as I can remember, he wasn't responsible for any clearance once he came on. I wanted Mix on for Zusi to bring Bradley back as an extra deep tackler or with Mix as the wide man for fresh legs instead.
  • Fabian Johnson is our best attacking/creative option. I sense Germany figuring that out, unfortunately.
  • Dempsey as the target forward absolutely the right idea with this roster. He makes the right runs and can at least trouble the goalie when by himself up top. Our only sustainable build-up chances are coming from the right side, anything through the middle winds up out wide by the opponent's third of the field...but at least we could hold possession through the middle third this game.
  • Bedoya was quiet again. Zusi was strong up front, but struggled a tad defensively for periods. Bedoya does his job defensively at least.
  • Beckerman is a ball winner in the ground he can cover. Exactly what we need in his role. I just wish he could cover more ground. On a side note, I'm glad the Miami Fusion are still represented.
  • I'm just hoping the midfield triumvirate can somehow be fresh [enough] for the last group stage game.
  • Time for the wink-wink with Germany. I'd be hoping for a narrow Portugal win vs Ghana otherwise (obviously a draw between those two would be nice too). All of Group H looks mediocre. Belgium has no cohesion and everyone else in the group looks like shit or like Algeria masquerading as not Algeria...at this point, I'd rather face Argentina than France in a potential quarterfinal as well, but looking that far ahead is stupid...let's just get out of the group.

What did you think of the US' performance in their second game. Did you even watch?
